Past Projects
Here are some of the projects we've been involved in since we first came together in 2022.
City of Healdsburg Climate Mobilization Strategy
Climate Action Healdsburg advocated for the development of a city-wide Climate Mobilization Strategy in 2022 and participated in its development during 2023, working closely with city staff and the Healdsburg City Council. We attended many meetings, community town halls, and brainstormed a long list of recommendations that could help Healdsburg reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. We assisted with surveys and reached out to the Latino Community with our partners from the Corazon Comite, ensuring their participation. The Strategy was approved in November 2023.
2023 Dia de Muertos in Healdsburg
Thanks to our partners from Corazon Healdsburg and the City of Healdsburg, Dia de Muertos is always filled with wonderful opportunities for collaboration, contemplation, reflection and lots of music and dance. We were one of six community groups which created altars for this celebration. We honored the memory of many different individuals who helped us to understand and recognize the climate crisis that we face. Our altar also remembered those who have died as a result of disasters and extreme weather events such as droughts, floods, or wildfires.
2023 Earth Day Climate Fest
In November 2022, one of our members suggested that one way to help people understand how their personal habits affect the climate crisis was to host a Climate Fair on Earth Day. Since our group had been founded on the eve of Earth Day 2022, a number of us sprang into action and organized our first Earth Day Climate Fest on April 22, 2023. We were pleased that the City of Healdsburg agreed to cohost with us. Approximately 2000 people attended the event. There were fifty booths representing different organizations placed around the Healdsburg Plaza on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The focus was on action-oriented, equitable solutions to the climate crisis. An Earth Protectors Parade, a Bicycle Rodeo for children, an electric vehicle show and donations from local farmers and bakeries helped to make this day memorable.
